Pullman Regional Hospital CEO Awarded “Outstanding Healthcare Executive - Non-Metro Region”
Pullman, WA - Pullman Regional Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Scott Adams, was named the "Outstanding Healthcare Executive - Non-Metropolitan Region" for 2009 by Seattle Business magazine (formerly Washington CEO), at a recent awards ceremony in Seattle.
The distinction presented to Adams marked the inaugural installment of the "Leaders In Healthcare" awards. In creating these awards, Seattle Business magazine's primary objective is to "honor individuals, companies, and organizations that have made an extraordinary impact on the quality of healthcare in Washington state."
Adams was nominated for the award by the staff at Pullman Regional Hospital. While his nomination included many remarkable achievements, as Seattle Business points out, "for the past 16 years, Adams has led Pullman Regional Hospital through a period of unprecedented growth which includes a 40 percent increase in patient volumes, a 100 percent increase in full-time employees, a nearly three-fold increase in overall revenue," and the construction of a new hospital four years ago.
Furthermore, under his watch, Pullman Regional was ranked 17th in Modern Healthcare magazine's inaugural list of the "100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare" for 2008, has finished in the top 3 percent nationally in patient satisfaction for nine consecutive quarters, and was ranked number 1 in overall patient satisfaction for the state of Washington by the federal Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Perhaps more notably, Adams has "transformed the organization's management structure by nurturing an employee-driven culture of personal responsibility and decision making."
Upon learning of Adams winning the award for "Outstanding Healthcare Executive - Non-Metropolitan Region," Pullman Regional Hospital Board of Commissioners Vice-President, Joe Pitzer, said, "Scott Adams should have a hall full of awards, but he's just not good at accepting them. He's too humble to apply for anything." Pitzer also went on to add, "Since I have been on the board - 13 or 14 years - not one member of his administrative team has left. What's that say about the guy?"
A member of Pullman Regional Hospital's administrative team, Chief Clinical Officer, Jeannie Eylar, RN, echoed Pitzer's sentiments. Remarking on Adams' leadership abilities, she notes "He has impeccable integrity. People trust him." Eylar then went on to add, "Because of that sincere trust, and because he believes in the capabilities of the people who work and live here, Scott has been able to accomplish some amazing things with our community, our board, and our medical staff."
In addition to the award received by Adams for "Outstanding Healthcare Executive - Non-Metropolitan Region," several awards were presented among a variety of additional categories, such as "Outstanding Health Care Executive (Metropolitan Region)," "Outstanding Health Care Professional," "Lifetime Achievement Award," and "Outstanding Volunteer in Healthcare," to name a few. In total, Seattle Business magazine received over 100 nominations for the awards in all of the various categories.
The entire list of winners from the "Leaders In Healthcare" awards ceremony appears in the March 2009 issue of Seattle Business, which is on newsstands now. Pullman Regional Hospital was also pleased to learn that Adams appears on the front cover of the issue.
